This makes very little sense when you consider that the original Captain America was produced to inspire patriotism during the war, and somehow managed to survive for a whole lot of time afterwards. But at least now I know what a serial is. It's not often that one kicks more ass as their "secret identity". Peter Parker let himself get beat up all the time because he didn't want anyone to know that he has mad skills and you shouldn't mess with him.
@Mark I totally agree with you! I first found out about the serial when I was 20 and it was rented at a video store and I reserved it for when it came back and I waited 2 days for it. The whole time while I was working those two days I kept thinking of what the serial would be like how cool it would be to see the sets they'd have for it (The Flash Gordon serial had great sets but every other serial I'd seen was just guys in suits fighting in cities!). My mind raced with all the posiblilities, would we see Red Skull, how would he look throwing his sheild, would Bucky be there, would he be fighting Nazis or the Japanese, would the first chapter deal with him getting his powers? Then I rented the tape and watched it... Disapointment! It was still good but the changes where so numerous! So crazy! And to top it off was, yes, the fact Cap gets beat down and his alter ego kicks butt! Its like salt in the wound! But its still one of my top ten favorite serials! (yes I've seen more then ten serials!)
@Bob Good quesion, I don't think it goes it to detail. But the bigger question is why was the vibrator a machine that took up half a room! (was it Godzillas?)
Bersercules: I didn't, because it wasn't there long enough for me to notice it, which you even mentioned in the write up. At least you've noticed my complaint.. even though you didn't take it to heart. :)
@heddin if you watch it with a group start on chapter one, its the one with the vibrator (that takes down a whole building!)
@Bob I didn't take it to heart cause I didn't wanna leave that write up up too long cause I thought it would be to boring. I love pausing videos to read write ups and I love when their not up long so I can avoid reading them if I'm not in the mood to care! Glad you liked being "imortalized" in my video!
@D4 I know what you mean! Its quite a coincidence that they'd name the invention after something that 30 years later would be so different! I love it when that happens!
Bersercules: Yeah, it makes sense in this long writeup. But to at least have it there for like 5 seconds wouldn't be that bad. I think it wouldn't hurt to have those short ones there longer either. Maybe that's just me.
Hope I don't sound like an ass here. When I do some creative stuff, I always appreciate constructive criticism. I think that's the best way to notice some problems, that I might miss as a creator for example.
I wonder, why does almost nobody aside from me provide this type of feedback here.
The vibrator thing was great, but I was more concerned by the shot of Captain Patriotic Marketing Tactic walking into a cave with what appears to be a shotgun.
To be honest I have not seen this series of Captain America (the serial).Your review of Captain America is great (thumbs up) but don't understand why our hero gets his ass beat up all the time ? Should we blame those tights , I think he can't move in them .
@Bob I get where your coming from with the one liners on screen longer. Maybe I'll try it one day.
You don't sound like an ass at all. I feel the same way, getting imput on creative stuff is good. I never thought about how bad my mick sounds till you told me. True I can't do anything about it cause its attached to the camera and its the only one I got, but if I get the chance to upgrade the camera I'll do it. It's also good to know about peoples opinions on the words popping up or how long they like the videos to be or if they think I speak to fast or slow (can't tell all the time when I'm talking if I'm going too fast or too slow!)
As to why most others don't give feed back, some do some probably don't cause they have to opinions and mostly I assume people don't cause their afraid I'll get offended! I've seen many people get mad over simple critisism! It always shocks me but I know those people exist. But I am not one of them so please feel free to critisize me, I enjoy learning how I'm perceived by others. (Not to say I will always change but it's still good to know what people like and don't!)
Thanks for taking the time out to tell me your thoughts!
Yeah, I think that's probably it. They don't want to offend you or something. :) Maybe you could mention in the post, that a constructive feedback is always welcome.
I love how out of shape the original Captain America was. I mean, he looks extremely doughy and even without the confidence of 3-4 beers I'm pretty sure I could beat the crap out of him.
How did you got a hold of those old series? I always wanted to watch old shows like this and laugh at how they could take the show seriously at the time. Nice review, it made me laugh pretty hard.
@Lord Phrozen The Captain America serial is in the public domain (which means we all own it!) and you can download it off the internet. The easiest way I know of is download them off YouTube (someone put them there) or check the link in the Youtube description on the videos cause the person who put them on YouTube linked to a download site.
Thumb up. (:
ReplyDeleteThat must have been really embarrassing to dress up as back then.
ReplyDeleteno thx

ReplyDeleteHow did he find out about his vibrator anyway? O_o

ReplyDeleteAlso Bob: Did you read the opening of the video?
Makes Captain America look like a wuss, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHah, how'd you find out about my vibrator? But seriously, this looks goddamn terrible enough to watch with a group of friends :D
ReplyDeleteBersercules: I didn't, because it wasn't there long enough for me to notice it, which you even mentioned in the write up.
ReplyDeleteAt least you've noticed my complaint.. even though you didn't take it to heart. :)
Cool, that I'm part of our little in-joke now. :)
ReplyDeleteI still can't get over that vibrator. Just downright perfect.

ReplyDeleteBersercules: I like your attitude towards this.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think that's probably it. They don't want to offend you or something. :)

Captain America is my least favorite Super Hero ... I feel Americans are too patriotic and I blame Captain America for that!
ReplyDeleteGreat video by the way :) It's always a pleasure to watch them!

ReplyDelete@Tonkow It's actually in the public domain, so you can down load it for free on the internet.
